Punta Cana Paradise!

2021

Having spent a great few days practicing and relaxing in Dubai following the conclusion of the Qatar Masters, I undertook a pretty intense journey from one side of the world to the other in order to participate in this week’s PGA Tour event in Punta Cana!

This is the third time that I have played in this event now and this year, the course is in arguably the best condition I have ever seen it! For those of you who are unfamiliar with the area – Corales Golf Club is set on top of the rolling cliffs and coves of the Caribbean Sea which means it generates some of the most spectacular scenery that you can ever come across on a golf course!

‘Punta Cana is a magical place and I can't wait to get this week started!’

It is actually one of the longest courses that they play on the PGA Tour all season but in compensation for that, it features wide open fairways which avoids any tough punishment for missed fairways. A hot putter will undoubtedly be essential for securing a good position on the leaderboard too!

The most significant challenge for us on such an exposed coastal track this week though will be the wind…which is unfortunately due to be quite strong across all four days with gusts of up to about 20mph! Added to that, the last three holes that run right along the sea are known as the Devil’s Elbow which clearly indicates that a smart strategy is required to navigate around that final stretch!

Thanks once again to Jay Overton for the invite to play in this week’s event!  Punta Cana is a magical place and I’m very much looking forward to getting this week started now!
