2022 - A New Chapter!

2022

First and foremost, apologies to my regular readers for the absence of blog posts in a while! As the season progressed, I unfortunately fell out of the habit of writing my usual updates but have made a New Year’s promise to myself to get straight back into it and so am starting today on the eve of my first day back to business!
But before I start talking about the new season…I just want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all my fans for your support in 2021. I had another really enjoyable year out on Tour and it was great to finally see so many of you out back on the course following again as rules/regulations of the Pandemic started to relax around the world! Thanks also to my entire team for another amazing year of memories and helping me to sign off my 5th year on Tour.

‘I spent most of the last three months here in Dubai...hopefully it has helped put me in good stead for a great start to this new season!’

It’s also worth mentioning that I was really looking forward to travelling to South Africa back in December to get 2022 off to an early start….however unfortunately Omicron had other ideas and so we didnt have a lot of choice other than to enjoy an extended break instead! As a matter of fact I spent most of the last three months based here in Dubai and have really enjoyed the opportunity to be able to practice my desert golf. Hopefully it has helped put me in good stead for a great start to this new season!
2022 is getting off to a great start on the DP World Tour with two back to back Rolex Series events being hosted in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
After 16 years at the same venue, the HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship is being hosted at a new venue this week and although its’s not far up the road from where the tournament used to be, Yas Links is a Kyle Phillips design and is a true links style set up which presents a a bit of a different test to the one we have grown accustomed to for this event.
As ever with links Golf Courses, the wind forecast is going to make a significant impact on scoring and the weather has been quite questionable in the Middle East over the last month so it looks like we could be in for a tough test of conditions during the week with wind gusts expected to reach up to 35mph on Friday!
The following week we will return to the regular host venue of Emirates Golf Club however the Dubai Desert Classic has now been elevated to a Rolex Series event and will therefore likely be bigger and better than you have ever seen it before!
Finally there was a last minute update to the DP World schedule this week as we learned that restrictions associated with the COVID pandemic have resulted in the Qatar Masters needing to be postponed until later in the Spring. Therefore, after the two Rolex Events have been completed, we will head an hour down the road to Ras Al Khaimah and play back to back tournaments there to finish off a four week long swing in the Desert!
At this point my schedule is a little uncertain after that…I’m hoping to play a couple of events over on the PGA Tour but I will keep you all posted with any updates on the website and in these blogs too.

With all that said, preparation and practice has now been complete here in Abu Dhabi! I am off at 8.30am tomorrow morning for the first round so fingers crossed we can get off to a strong start to kick off this new season!
