Time to Get Going in Germany!
2021
As most of you will already know, there has been a bit of a shake up for this week’s tournament! Unfortunately the European Tour had to operate within some pretty strict new German protocols in order to put on the Porsche European Open this week and as a result – the event has become a 54 hole event with a Saturday start and Monday finish! As per usual though, there will still be a cut after the first two rounds.
It has to be said that it would have been very easy for the Tour to cancel this tournament given how quickly new national restrictions were imposed on us all – but instead, the revised layout now serves as pretty good evidence of how determined they have been to make sure playing opportunities are continuously available for us and how flexible they have learned to be at adapting to situations in the last year too!
‘Finally there will be some crowds out there again on European soil tomorrow!’
As a result of the new rules, we were only legally permitted to enter Germany early on Friday morning which meant a shorter than usual preparation on site this week. However, even in that short period of time it’s clear to see that Green Eagle Golf Club is in great shape ahead of this year’s event.
It’s a longer than average course here which consequently boasts generous fairways and relatively large greens. But the dangers are still out there with thick heavy rough ready and waiting to punish those rogue tee shots…as well as water being a feature on 17 of the 18 holes! Needless to say, ball control will be a pretty key factor this week!
Two other good bits of news to share…firstly that the forecast has predicted pretty much solid sunshine and warm temperatures for all three days we are playing as well as only low levels of wind too. Secondly, there will finally be crowds back out there again tomorrow!
Looking forward to starting another great edition of this event now…off at 8.20am local time this morning. Let’s get the good vibes going!
